Teoksella taiteilija haluaa muistuttaa, että ihminen on vain yksi maapallon lukemattomista eläinlajeista ja että sillä on valitettavan tuhoisa taipumus ajatella, että se olisi jonkinlainen ylivertainen luomakunnan kruunu ja evoluution voittaja, joka oikeutettu käyttämään ympäristön resursseja hyväkseen kuten haluaa ja parhaaksi näkee. Jos ihminen unohtaa riippuvuussuhteensa luontoon ja paikkansa sen ekologisessa lokerossa, ja sen että kun ympäristö köyhtyy ja kun joku laji kuolee sukupuuttoon, kuolee myös ihmisessä jotakin, joka ei koskaan enää palaa.
ANIMALS LIVES AND WONDERS
In the video artwork, hybrid creatures—resembling both animals and humans—gaze sorrowfully at the chaotic state of the world.
With this work, the artist seeks to remind us that humans are just one of the countless animal species on Earth. Yet, tragically, humanity has a tendency to see itself as a superior being—the so-called crown of creation and the winner of evolution—entitled to exploit natural resources as it pleases. If humans forget their interdependence with nature and their place in the ecological system, they also risk forgetting that when the environment is depleted, and a species goes extinct, something within humanity itself also disappears—something that will never return.
